The Volunteer Caretaker supports the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Annalong Centre (dormitory and four cottages). This is a volunteer role, not an employment position, with on-site accommodation and a modest meal stipend provided to support daily living. • Support check-ins and check-outs for guests and groups, including light housekeeping, laundry, and turnover tasks.

  • Monitor and restock supplies such as toiletries, kitchen items, guest books, and welcome materials.

  • Assist in preparing spaces for group programs, workshops, and individual stays.

  • Report maintenance issues or safety concerns; perform simple fixes if capable.

Guest & Community Support

  • Welcome guests and provide guidance on facilities, safety procedures, and campus layout.

  • Assist group leaders during arrival days, including orientation to emergency exits, fire procedures, heating, and Wi-Fi.

  • Maintain guest materials, including postcards, brochures, and informational packets, ensuring they are current and welcoming.

  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive environment for visitors from diverse backgrounds.

Safety & Health Responsibilities

  • Follow FFE health and safety procedures, including fire safety, emergency evacuation, and elevator monitoring.

  • Participate in weekly and seasonal safety checks, including inspections before and after storms, and monitoring outdoor spaces such as firepit areas and paths.

  • Ensure waste and recycling systems are properly managed and maintained.

Operational & Seasonal Support

  • Support weekly and seasonal tasks, including light gardening, outdoor maintenance, and general upkeep of shared spaces.

  • Track inventory of critical supplies and notify the Operations Manager of low items or items needing replacement.

  • Maintain simple logs of incidents, maintenance, and operational notes for continuity.

  • Assist with special projects as requested by FFE, such as preparing rooms for events or community programs.

All duties are flexible. Volunteers are encouraged to contribute where they can and are interested. There are no mandatory requirements.
